My Favorite Room, Stairwell edition

Blog  hopping is funny, huh? You land on one blog, then link to another, and before you know it, you have spent a hour stalking someone's blog that you don't know, and your kid has chocolate frosting all over his face and you don't even have frosting in your house. Oh wait, is this just me? ok.
Well, we are in the market for a new house, so decor blogs have been grabbing my interest as of late. I have been gathering new ideas for what I want to do in my next house- whenever we move- and I thought  I would share some of my favorite rooms with you!
I found this room from our very own guest blogger, Kristy, who wrote about liking it on LolaB's blog. You must visit and see more photos of the whole wall. So beautiful! And that is why this is the first room/wall to be featured on My Favorite Room!

Making over a Cookie Cutter Kitchen

My college roommate just turned me on this this blog, and I am already loving it. She posted photos of her kitchen remodel and I am super inspired.

I love how she took her kitchen, which was nice but lacked personality, and made it her own custom look!

Here is the inspiration sketch....
And the finished product! Isn't it beautiful?

I think it takes a lot of guts to make these changes. Open cabinets and ripping out existing cabinets that look perfectly fine!? I love that she took these chances and made bold choices and it resulted in something SO much better!  To see more, check out Jones Design Company.

While I am in this lovely kitchen, here's what I would wear...

Fall Decor, Part 2

Welcome back! Its great to see you again!

This is the front door wreath we normally use. It has all kinds of beautiful dried flowers, twigs, pomegranates, and other interesting items. I just put a little Autumn Welcome sign to make it transition into Fall!

The Formal Dining has Scarecrows on both sides of the buffet...

Also in the Formal Dining. Fall foliage, berries and pumpkins make for a festive centerpiece. And since we never eat in there, we never have to move it. Bonus.

A pumpkin tree I love....

I like this because it looks so vintage. It could also look creepy, but I like to see it as half full!

There are other assorted pumpkins, jack 'o lanterns, and scarecrows, but I chose to show you some of the decorations that were not the norm.
Hopefully this tour of my house got your creative juices flowing for your holiday decorating!
Happy Halloween!

Fall Decor at My House

I love to see how people decorate for holidays, so I thought you might want to see what I do. I don't go ALL OUT for fall (like I do for Christmas, ahem.) but I do like to add some details here and there to celebrate the season!

Sometimes I get a weird combination of Halloween and Thanksgiving, but I just like to combine it all in the name of Harvest. I think that covers everything. I don't go really oogie Halloween, but I do like pumpkins and such. Again, Harvest. :)

Let's take a look around...

These first couple pictures show that it just takes little touches to make something festive. Here is a shabby pumpkin sitting on the leather ottoman in front of our couch. Its keeping my Real Simple warm until I get back to it!

This is the fireplace with a scarecrow garland hung across it, and a sassy pumpkin hanging from the fireplace screen. I also have a cute iron pumpkin candle sitting on the ledge...you might have to squint your eyes to see that one!

Its kinda hard to see so here is a closeup of the sassy pumpkin. I bought it after Halloween a couple of years ago for 1/2 off- gotta love scoring a deal!

Fall comes to the Bathroom...

There is not much to do in a small room like a bathroom, so I just put little touches around to incorporate the holiday decorating through the whole house. Here's a little Scarecrow on the vanity.

An adorable fall soap helps make the countertop cute! I also put a stuffed pumpkin on top of the toliet, but I couldn't bring myself to take a picture of my toliet!

So, those are a couple of the rooms that holiday decoration has touched. Come back tomorrow to see the rest!

Part 4

This is the view from the Mudroom to where the laundry room is. She keeps a big bulletin board on the wall, that has all the party invitations they get. Its information central. The other side, that you cannot see, has a big long shelf and place to hang clothes. So functional.

Thanks for taking this tour with me! Isn't it fun to see such a cute room? Now, wouldn't you love to have it? Aren't you jealous with me? Just a little, but in the best, happiest-for-you-sort-of-way? Me too.

Another adorable section of the laundry room. I guess this is really called "The Mudroom" section of the laundry room. The curtain, which the picture doesn't show well, is a great green leopard print top with a brown, green and red floral bottom. Stinking cute.

Laundry room, part 2

Here is a close up of the bubbled glass, which kinda looks weird in this picture. This is to the side of the washer, and you can see the great vintage locker baskets. We found those at one of my favorite monthly spots, a huge flea market called First Monday in the small town of Canton, Texas. I don't really know what she will put in there, but probably something for show. She is not the type that would want her mismatched socks to show, unless they matched the room. :)

Why I am jealous of my sister

My mom raised 2 girls and a boy that love to decorate. I am not sure you can tell from this blog, but I like house decor ALMOST as much as I like paper. Almost. So, instead of reading In Style, which always makes me feel poor and frumpy, I am much happier with a great house decor magazine. (The steal is $100 pair of shoes? Yeah, I guess that is a steal...when you compare it to the $1000 pair next to them.)

My sister's family bought their house knowing it was too small and they would need to do some additions. The special time came in the past few months, where they have been living with workmen and sawdust all over the place. They added a couple of rooms, but my favorite has to be the laundry room.

There is something about being able to custom design such a utilitarian part of your house that makes it feel so special. My sister is a great decorator and I love the way her laundry room turned out. I would totally NOT mind doing laundry in this SO cute room!
Allow me to take you on a tour the next few days....

This is the view when you get the room. Notice the window- those shutters are on the inside. Cute. I love the sage green cabinets. You cannot tell here, but they are distressed. Also, the glass doors have those little bubbles. I guess that is called bubbled glass?

Sunroom couch

It is my goal to have a sunroom. I love to read, and I envision myself sitting in my sunroom, surrounded by trees, enjoying a big glass of iced tea. ...one day.....
This cute couch was in one of the model homes in my neighborhood, and I thought it was really cute. I love mixing and matching fabrics, and I probably would not thought of using all these fabrics together. It wouldn't go in every room, but I think it is perfect for a sunroom!!

The office, day 5

Another wall houses the college I made (a couple posts ago), greeting card stand, and another bookshelf and working table. It is probably not shown in this picture b/c it is a mess!! :)

The office, day 4

I love the empowerment of Rosie the Riveter, so I found a place online to change it to pink and add Come Together Cards!! I bought the frame half price at Hobby Lobby to frame it!

The office, day 3

I asked my husband to write on the chalkboard and this is what he wrote. So cute.

My new office

Its been a long time coming, but my new office is finally up and finished!! I am revealing it..one day at a time!!
My favorite part of my office are these "found" letters that spell out my nickname...Dot. (It was given to me by my nephew- no, my real name isn't Dorothy!)
