Best Halloween Costume Ever?

Just like I have a love for food that looks like other food, I have a great appreciation for great Halloween costumes.
And no, I don't mean the skanky, half dressed women that use Halloween as an excuse to dress like a street walker. I am talking about bonafide, creative, hard work involved costumes.
People are soooo clever and come up with the best ideas!

I saw this photo on Twitter in the Spring and saved it all for months.
This is one of the best recreations of a movie character that I have ever seen!!

If you are not familiar, this are the characters from Ferris Bullers Day Off.
I think they look like dead ringers!!

The "Jeanne" character is the blogger at http://www.the600sqfthome.com/, so go say hi!

If I was dressing up this year, I think I would go as Prince William and Kate Middleton. I think it would be so cute, and pretty easy.

We are just going trick-or-treating with our little Luke Skywalker, so I don't think dressing up is going to happen this year. Plus, I don't want to get out my wedding dress. :)

Little Man Party

I'm in the process of brainstorming my son's birthday party next month, and here are some images I pulled off Pinterest that give me inspiration. The theme is going to be a "little man" party but with a SPY twist.
Little man=to appease mom
Spy=to appease him!  :)

I'm getting really excited about the adorable details that are coming together! How is your October shaping up so far?

What I am working on....

I am so excited to be working on details for a kid's Captain America party this weekend! I am surrounded by red, white and blue and STARS!!!
I can *almost* see the light at the end of the tunnel unpacking my recent move's boxes, so I am slowly but surely uncovering things I thought I lost! :) (I am still looking for my huge bottle of silver glitter. Its like, a year's supply, so I cannot stand to buy another one. If Sam's or Costco sold glitter, I feel that it would be this large. I don't need a glitter supply for the next two years, I mean, come on! How much glitter can one person have?)
I will share photos soon... in the meantime, here are some past designs I have done for custom orders.

Weekend Road Trip: Kiawah Island

Some of my best friends are girls I see less than once a year. My college roommates. We are all in the same place in life- busy, busy, busy with kids, husbands, jobs, churches, ministries, and more babies! We try to see each other at least every year, and it doesn't always happen. But when it does, it is a joy.

This month was time for our trip and we were fortunate enough to go to Kiawah Island, right outside Charleston, SC.  And in the fashion of God's sense of humor, the weekend of the trip-that we had scheduled months in advance-- turned out to be the time of the move into my new house.
Ahhhhhhh. Crazy times. I planned everything I could before I left, made lists and emails and phone calls, then relied on my husband to carry it out. Then kept up with the move via cell phone! A little. In between meals, crying and talking- which is all we do when we get together!

The beach

I started chasing the seagulls. There were hundreds!

Brunch at Poogan's Porch, inside an old, historical home

More eating.. :)

The five girls

Saying hello to my son back home via photo...
(he likes it when I send him photos of what I am doing)

Stopping at a street vendor for a Mexican Coke with real sugar

It made me laugh to look up from my beach chair
and see Stephanie and Shannon both reading the same book- Heaven is For Real!
(Its a sweet book, by the way)

Flying on September 11. That was a little creepy!
Kiawah is beautiful and I am so thankful that our host's opened their home to us to spend some much needed time with best friends. There is something so therapeutic about being with women that know you well and care about your heart. It is rare to find even one of those friends in life-- so to know several is an undeserved blessing. I only wish I could see them more!

Do you have a dear friend in your life? Why don't you shoot her an email- or better yet- call her and tell her you love her today! It will encourage YOU to encourage her!

My Vision for our Bedroom

We are moving. Probably right now as we speak, I am lifting a dresser or painting a wall.

So, in our new house, I am going through a new look. Something fresh, different colors than I have used before...something that fits with the historic home we bought.
I needed inspiration and ideas. Where did I go?
Pintrest, of course! :)

There I found a bedroom color that I loved!
(Ralph Lauren color)

And a duvet cover that I love too. Its so soft and romantic. And totally different than what we had before!
I checked it out in grey, but some of the reviews said it looked a little green, so we went with ivory. I got it in the mail yesterday and I can't wait to put it on the bed. I mean, I can't wait to have a bed to put it on. (Its not really set up, yet! We have a mattress on the floor. Which is really cool, for like, 2 days. Then it feels like camping.

I can't wait to show you the finished product! I can't wait to see it myself....

Roadtrip: Destination Austin

Happy September 1st! YAY that fall is almost-somewhat-gonna be here!

We just took a little road trip to a part of Texas that we love- the Hill Country- and Austin in Particular. Every time I go to Austin, I love to eat at the old standbys, and this time I got to try some new places!

We went to SoCo- South Congress street, which is a really cute part of Austin. Cool shops and very funky vibe.
Cute Candy Store on South Congress...

They had Gummy Brains and hearts!! These suckers were huge, too!

And yes- chocolate covered bacon. I wasn't brave enough to try one. Blech.

We stopped for cupcakes at the adorable Hello Cupcake airstream trailer. Austin has a ton of these areas- you can just stop by the side of the road at several trailers all together and have a 5 course meal.

And at some point, my sister in law, Vanessa, our friend Angie, and I put on blue wigs.

Home Slice Pizza- delicious, Chicago style pizza. The pizza was delicious and REALLY HUGE. The kids loved it and the adults did too!

We were in the area b/c my husband is a musician and was playing at a camp there. We rode around on the golf cart "limo" all week, and I have to say,

I jumped at the chance to get behind the wheel. There is a raw power only the driver can know when driving a golf cart. Such style. My husband has an identical twin brother and that is his son and mine driving with us. The cousins sure love to play together and loved riding around the camp!

I liked this tile at Maude's Tex Mex :)
A  waitress walked in while I was taking a photo (in the bathroom!) and I felt stupid. Then I felt REALLY dumb when she was OUR waitress!

We stopped for sugar cookies, of course....

And went swimming in a natural "swimming hole"!
It was my first time to go swimming in a bondafide "swimming hole". I was a little nervous b/c I am not really much of a lake person- slimy creatures swimming around my legs freak me out. It give me peace of mind to SEE the bottom of the water I am in. But I thought this would be a fun activity for the family- and boy was it! The pool was amazing- surrounded by large cliffs dripping with waterfalls. And since the pool was natural spring water, it was cool and refreshing- perfect for blaring hot July afternoon. This was something I am really glad I tried!

When I got freaked out about animals, I figured that all the people around scared the creepy animals away from where we were swimming. But I did see 2 snakes while we hiked on our way out. Better than on the way in! I might not have been swimming so freely….
