Yesterday we had the pleasure of going to a wedding for a friend that plays music with Joel. He and his lovely bride are such a sweet couple and it was so neat to be a part of that special day for them. My husband sang several songs in the wedding and did a great job.
Going to this wedding yesterday brought up some emotion for me. I am not usually emotional at weddings, and maybe I was just glad to have a night of grown ups without a 3 year old in tow. But really, it was more than that, as every wedding I attend is a small way to check myself in my own marriage. The standard of an excellent marriage is a tall order and it takes GREAT effort. With divorces all around us, attending a wedding is a great reminder for me of the wife I am called to be. Loving, gentle, always looking for my husband's interests before my own. Its easy to forget that, isn't? In a blink of an eye, life takes over and if we are not careful we can interact with each other like business partners, roommates, and anything but best friends. My husband and I work very hard to try to keep things fresh...taking a time to go on a date without the little one is a HUGE help is connecting (and being able to talk without interruption. :)
It is so sweet to look at the couple and remember the giddiness of those first years, and be reminded of the memories of early years.
You may not have a wedding to attend but you still could do something sweet for your spouse today. Share a special memory- maybe of your first date- and think about how far you have come!

I can so relate to this post! It's soooo easy to just become room mates. Life is exhausting! Now that our baby is sleeping better at night, we are going to resume date night. Thanks for the reminder/encouragement.
When my husband and I started dating I was working my tail off, without much money to splurge on luxuries. On a random day he surprised me with a lovely card, along with a live CD of one of my favorite bands (which I was surprised he even remembered) along with a gift card to a local coffee company. Being a Seattle girl, he knew the way to my heart -I couldn't be happier than with a good cup of jo and a great band.
Awwww! So sweet! :)
