Spread the word

At the start of this year, one of my goals was to feature these cards in a magazine so more people could hear about them. There is a contest in Cookie Magazine, so it is a great opportunity to make that happen- and I need some help!!

Its a "Word of Mom" contest, and the winners are named Cookie's Mom's Readers Choice (or something like that!)

Will you help?

Go to http://www.wordofmom.com/item/submit
The best category is ONLINE
Then under SHOPPING SITE enter http://www.cometogethercards.com/

Thanks for spreading the word!! Please leave a post here if you did it- it will make me so happy!! :)

Address label

Here is a new address label! These are always so cute- when I make one, I wonder why I don't think about it to make more, because I always like how they turn out. They are big- 2x4, so I think they look great on a envelope or package.

Shopper girl

Deborah's Boutique in Marshall, Texas, wanted a shopper girl zebra print notecard to send as thank you notes to her clients.
500 cards, 2 black inks, and one trip to the paper store later, they are almost finished! :)

Back from South Africa

I just got back from a mission trip
in South Africa. I can easily say it was the most rewarding, life changing experience of my life. Here are a couple of pictures...

This is me with a burn victim at a local hospital. She was such a sweet little girl-- it was so heartbreaking.
Some kids at the orphanage we worked at. All the kids there are HIV-positive and are getting medical care. Aren't they adorable!!!???
A room at the hospital we painted.
My husband and I at the Suspension Bridge at Oribi Gorge. I totally cannot believe I went across this!!

I would love to tell anyone more about my trip! There are SO many needs- the poverty in South Africa is overwhelming. We saw people living in shacks with dirt floors, orphaned 13 years olds raising their siblings. The area we worked in is 75% HIV positive, and the government is doing nothing to change things. It was a wonderful, heartbreaking, eye-opening trip.

Part 4

This is the view from the Mudroom to where the laundry room is. She keeps a big bulletin board on the wall, that has all the party invitations they get. Its information central. The other side, that you cannot see, has a big long shelf and place to hang clothes. So functional.

Thanks for taking this tour with me! Isn't it fun to see such a cute room? Now, wouldn't you love to have it? Aren't you jealous with me? Just a little, but in the best, happiest-for-you-sort-of-way? Me too.

Another adorable section of the laundry room. I guess this is really called "The Mudroom" section of the laundry room. The curtain, which the picture doesn't show well, is a great green leopard print top with a brown, green and red floral bottom. Stinking cute.

Laundry room, part 2

Here is a close up of the bubbled glass, which kinda looks weird in this picture. This is to the side of the washer, and you can see the great vintage locker baskets. We found those at one of my favorite monthly spots, a huge flea market called First Monday in the small town of Canton, Texas. I don't really know what she will put in there, but probably something for show. She is not the type that would want her mismatched socks to show, unless they matched the room. :)

Why I am jealous of my sister

My mom raised 2 girls and a boy that love to decorate. I am not sure you can tell from this blog, but I like house decor ALMOST as much as I like paper. Almost. So, instead of reading In Style, which always makes me feel poor and frumpy, I am much happier with a great house decor magazine. (The steal is $100 pair of shoes? Yeah, I guess that is a steal...when you compare it to the $1000 pair next to them.)

My sister's family bought their house knowing it was too small and they would need to do some additions. The special time came in the past few months, where they have been living with workmen and sawdust all over the place. They added a couple of rooms, but my favorite has to be the laundry room.

There is something about being able to custom design such a utilitarian part of your house that makes it feel so special. My sister is a great decorator and I love the way her laundry room turned out. I would totally NOT mind doing laundry in this SO cute room!
Allow me to take you on a tour the next few days....

This is the view when you get the room. Notice the window- those shutters are on the inside. Cute. I love the sage green cabinets. You cannot tell here, but they are distressed. Also, the glass doors have those little bubbles. I guess that is called bubbled glass?

Sunroom couch

It is my goal to have a sunroom. I love to read, and I envision myself sitting in my sunroom, surrounded by trees, enjoying a big glass of iced tea. ...one day.....
This cute couch was in one of the model homes in my neighborhood, and I thought it was really cute. I love mixing and matching fabrics, and I probably would not thought of using all these fabrics together. It wouldn't go in every room, but I think it is perfect for a sunroom!!

Happy fourth of July!!

This fourth of July finds us celebrating our freedom in a different place!! We are in Africa, and I think we are appreciating our freedom in a whole new and different way. America is an amazing country where anyone can live their dream and worship how they want, and I am so thankful for the opportunity and freedom that I take for granted all the time! We are a country with problems, and have a long way to go in areas, but there is no other place that I would rather call home.

In keeping with my love of vintage, and especially vintage holidays, here is an old postcard I found.

Please watch some fireworks for me-- I love to oooh and awwww!! Especially the sparkly ones that shimmer in the air.

Have a wonderful July 4th, no matter where you are!!

Notepads

My mom is a part of ladies who call themselves the "Lunch Bunch". They pick one day a month and tour around restaurants in town for 2 hour lunches. They are not quite the Purple Hat ladies, but close!
She wanted me to make some notepads that reflect all their different personalities. They turned out really cute- black and white and big and chunky, with black and white bows. Some of her friends ordered them too- they are $20 and a great gift!!
Any guess on which one is my mom?
