Jason Castro's Visit to Rockwall

A couple weeks ago, I went to visit my husband at the church where he works. As I called him, he said in a hushed voice, "You'll never guess whose is in my office!!"
I had to keep it a secret and couldn't even tell my friend who works there and is a huge Jason fan. But, we did get a picture out of it, so that was fun.
I think my son is just enamored with the dreads. He wouldn't look away!!
It was my first time to meet Jason Castro, and he was so sweet and just as adorable as he seemed on American Idol. Fun times!!

New Cards

Taylor loves sports, and is having her 9th birthday party at a gym.

This card is inspired by my husband. The guitar can be interchanged for something else... I was wanting to make a guy card that didn't look so girly.

New classics according to Entertainment Weekly

I am a sucker for a great magazine. Where else can you find diverse and applicable information? I love Real Simple the most, but also enjoy a good Oprah, People, Us or Mary Englebriet Home Companion. Honestly, there is hardly a magazine I won't read.
So, imagine my happy feelings when I saw this in the mail.

The New Classics--Entertainment Weekly (I would show you the cover but it isn't released online yet.)

Which films released in the past 25 years stand with the all-time greats? We've already counted down 75; here's the best of the best — see why ''Shrek,'' ''Rushmore,'' and ''Titanic'' made the cut -- and see our No. 1 New Classic

Nerd alert

I think this next post makes me an official nerd, and I am okay with that.

I sent some Come Together Note cards to the First Lady, and she send me a letter back with a signed picture. Isn't that fun!? And it was so sweet!!

I am not really sure what made me do it-- I vote but am not a violently political person. I just think Laura Bush seems like a nice lady, and is a fellow Texan, of course. Probably the biggest reason is that I think she was an unintentional inspiration for the teacher card. Every time I see it, I think of her.

How about you-- just imagine her with brown hair and a book in her hand. Do you see it at all?

My guest room

This is the room in my house that is the catch-all room. If we have it and are not sure where to put it, it goes in here. So, the guest room has random collections, random gift books, throw pillows with cheesy sayings and magazines that I keep holding onto but never read.
Part of me thinks about painting this room b/c I am BIG on painted walls. Another part of me knows we will have another child in the distant future, and will have to paint it again, so, it is still white.
My favorite part of this room is the arbor I brought in from the yard. I wanted it in my bedroom, but it only fit around a twin, so, the guest room it was.
I am thinking about changing looks in here...my husband wants to go for an "Anthropologie-look"-- whatever that means! I have no idea. But, I like change, so I am on board for it.

Ebay-itus

I have a small addiction.

I know that is like saying you are "a little pregnant", but I cannot consider this a full blown addiction because it comes in waves.

I am addicted to ebay this week.

I get on an ebay kick about every 6 months. Usually when I have something that is too valuable to sell in a garage sale and I like to see what it might go for. We are currently going on a mission trip to Africa in 2 weeks, so I have been selling stuff on ebay to raise money for it!

So far, I sold some perfume (just switched fragrances on Mother's Day to Philosophy Amazing Grace), a jacket my husband never wore, old stationery...and now I am onto chenille.

I found all this great chenille when I was making the curtains for my office, so I bought some to list on ebay. Some of it I couldn't list b/c I fell in love with it, but most of it is on there now. Its vintage chenille from the 30's, 40's and 50's and its so fun.
The reason that I feel so addicted is because I check it AT LEAST once a day. I love to see what is being viewed most, what items have the most "watchers' and what has gone up in the auction. Is is like the lure of checking email or a blog- I sit down and think, even though I should be working, it won't take THAT long to check the status of my ebay stuff. And then I get sidetracked, of course!!

Here is what I am selling- isn't it great???

Are there any other ebayers out there? What do you like to buy?

Happy Father's Day

When you think of the ultimate father, don't you think of the dad from "Father's Knows Best"? I used to love that show, at least until I realized the mom on the show vaccumed her house in pearls. A little unrealistic, to be sure! But, on this Father's Day, I don't hold it against her.
Happy Father's Day, with love from Come Together Cards!!

The battle has begun

There is a person in my life I am afraid of.
This person does not listen to logic.
This person has a feisty temper and is prone to throw things when angry.
This person wants only his way, all the time, every time.
This person is my son, who is 18 months old.

What happened to my precious angel baby? He has turned into a hitting, stomping, fit-throwing little cuss. Not always. Just when he doesn't get his way, of course.

I think I saw it when he started drinking through a straw. At restaurants, he is a fan of the kid's cup. Only he won't leave it there. He has to take the stinking cup with him all day. You might say he looks like me, carrying around a drink all day long. If you said that, I might just tell you to shut up.

I have been starting to realize I am out of my element here, so today I went to the library and piled on some "how to parent your toddler" books. And none too soon.

My husband is playing tonight so I thought we could go get some dinner before he left to play.
Oh, what a mistake.

Judah was in full form- wanting EVERYTHING on the table. Salt shaker. Pepper shaker. Knife. Fork. Spoon. Iced tea. At what point do I get tired of saying "no"? Do kids that hear no too much in life grow up to be yes people? So, then I think, why shouldn't he have my fork? Has anyone thought about this? I am relieved when the bread comes, only he doesn't want the piece I give him. He wants the WHOLE STINKING LOAF OF BREAD. He has a chunk in one hand, a chunk of bread in the other, and still wants the loaf in the basket.

Joel and I are talking about his day at work when Judah starts sobbing. I look at him and realize why is hysterical. (Please think about the most pitiful face you can- bottom lip out- big fat tears- red face-this kind of drama.) And we cannot help but chuckle when we realize he is having this reaction to the waitress going to refill the bread basket. She took it away, the witch. There is nothing more exhausting than trying to calm a hysterical child over something that you cannot make right. No, you cannot take the loaf of bread with you- its as long as your arm. No, you cannot sleep in your shoes. No, you cannot wear that dirty diaper to sleep.

I am in the room next to him, trying to listening to calming music and not make too much noise typing so he doesn't hear me. I need-- I mean, HE needs his sleep, of course.

The office, day 5

Another wall houses the college I made (a couple posts ago), greeting card stand, and another bookshelf and working table. It is probably not shown in this picture b/c it is a mess!! :)
